CEM Newsbreak - Spring 2008
Business Practices 2008 at Breezy Bend
The 2008 CEM Business Practices Meeting took place on January 17 at Breezy Bend Country Club with a full slate of speakers and reports of interest to our membership. President Brant reviewed his strategic goals for 2007-08 and provided updates on progress thus far.
This year's Business Practices meeting included presentations from several invited guests, including:
- a delegation from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights regarding the museum's development and opportunities for the engineering community to become more involved;
- President of the Consulting Engineers of Ontario, Mr. John Gamble, P.Eng. ;
- Gord Steeves, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities;
- Dr. Doug Ruth, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; and
- Michael Kologie, Trade Commissioner, Canadian Trade Commission Office
The Business Practices meeting also heard from the CEM committee chairs regarding current committee actions and intiatives. Of particular interest is the current movement of our related provincial associations, many are currently undergoing name changes to be more consistent with our national umbrella organization, ACEC (formerly Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada, now renamed the Association of Canadian Engineering Companies). CEM is also considering a name change and we encourage members to stay tuned as we look at options for re-branding the CEM to provide more consistency with our national partners.
