Career Fairs: CEM Bridges the Gap to Tomorrow's Valued Colleagues

Career Fair Side Panel

CEM continues its initiative to maintain a strong presence at local engineering-oriented career fairs. Beginning with ramped up efforts last year, CEM has expanded efforts to promote CEM and the Manitoba Consulting Engineering Industry as an attractive option for made-in-Manitoba engineering graduates. The job market has been extremely competitive for recruiting engineering graduates, with many receiving job offers to start their careers in hotter economies such as Alberta and Saskatchewan. CEM has been aware of these pressures and has moved to create an increased awareness of CEM and the consulting industry as career options.

In the 2007-08 year, CEM has participated in 3 career fairs at the University of Manitoba and has also set up display booths at the Milenium Library and Red River Community College. CEM has received a good response from students through these efforts, and we've assembled a roster of over 250 engineering students who told us they wanted to become more plugged in to the consulting engineering industry in Manitoba. CEM thanks the many volunteers from member firms who helped us staff our displays, and particularly the Image Committee who spearheaded these efforts.
